Established in 1952, Moriguchi City Yakumo Elementary School stands before you. Originally named Muragami Town Yakumo Elementary School, it became Moriguchi City Yakumo Elementary School in 1957 when Muragami Town merged into Moriguchi City. Yakumo Elementary School wasn’t the first school in the area. Kitagawa Elementary, now Moriguchi City Kitagawa Elementary School, predates it. Yakumo Elementary adopted its school song in 1956. The school’s current emblem features a stylized cherry blossom. This symbolizes growth and renewal. In 1961, Yakumo Elementary School underwent a significant change. Part of its district was rezoned. This affected students living within the newly defined boundaries of Moriguchi City Moriguchi Elementary School. Later, in 1975, Yakumo Elementary played a crucial role in the establishment of Shimoshima Elementary School. It ceded a portion of its student population and physical space to the newly formed institution. This reflected the rapid population growth and urbanization happening in the surrounding area. The school caters to students residing within specific designated neighborhoods. These include parts of Ota-cho, Yakumo Nishi-machi, Yakumo Naka-machi, Yakumo Kita-machi, and some of Sumiyoshi-cho. Graduates of Yakumo Elementary typically transition to Moriguchi City Yakumo Junior High School to continue their education.
