Established in 1977, Osaka Prefectural Toneyama Katanoyama High School stands as a testament to Osaka’s commitment to education. This school was built in response to a surge in high school students. It opened its doors on April 1st, 1977. The very ground we stand on holds a unique piece of history. The school sits on land that once belonged to Osaka University’s Pharmaceutical Department. Prior to that, the site housed the former Osaka Pharmaceutical College and its successor, Osaka University’s Pharmaceutical Department campus. The university relocated to Suita in 1975. That move paved the way for Toneyama Katanoyama High School to be built here. Interestingly, within the school grounds lies a precious natural resource: Satoyama. This wooded area provides a unique opportunity for students to connect with nature. They engage in environmental conservation activities and disaster prevention drills. This makes Toneyama Katanoyama High School more than just an educational institution. It is a place where students learn, grow, and connect with the natural world around them. The timeline of the school’s establishment is quite fascinating. Preparations began on April 17, 1976. The Osaka Prefectural government proposed the 106th high school. Construction began on June 8th of the same year. On December 17, 1976, the Osaka Prefectural Assembly officially approved the establishment of Toneyama Katanoyama High School. The school was formally established on January 1, 1977, under the Osaka Prefectural Ordinance. And just a few months later, on April 1st, the school officially opened.
