Gazing at Osaka Prefectural Midori Seiho High School, can you sense the echoes of two schools merging into one? This isn’t just any high school. Osaka Prefectural Midori Seiho High School carries a unique history. It was born in 2008 from the union of Osaka Prefectural Ikeji High School and Osaka Prefectural Seishi High School. The name “Midori Seiho” itself reflects this blend. “Midori,” meaning green, symbolizes the lush natural surroundings of the former schools. “Seiho,” referencing words from both schools’ songs, embodies the hope for a bright future and strong friendships. The school inherited Ikeji High School’s location, a familiar space now imbued with a new purpose. Initially, Midori Seiho High School offered a comprehensive general education with elective courses across six areas. These included humanities, information and expression, sports, childcare and welfare, international culture, and human studies. Students focused on core subjects in their first year, then tailored their education by choosing specialized subjects and electives in subsequent years. This allowed them to pursue their individual interests and career aspirations. In 2016, the school shifted to a specialized course system. This new system offers two specialized courses: Human Exploration and Childcare. The Human Exploration course focuses on humanities, while the Childcare course caters to aspiring kindergarten teachers and childcare professionals. Alongside these specialized courses, the school continues to offer general academic subjects. The school is located in Higashiosaka city, near the former Ikeji High School. The legacy of Ikeji and Seishi lives on in the spirit of Midori Seiho High School. It represents a new chapter in education, built on the foundation of two respected institutions. Their combined history has shaped a vibrant learning environment, offering a unique blend of tradition and innovation.
