In 1947, amidst the post-war reconstruction of Osaka, the Naniwa First Junior High School opened its doors. This school, now known as Osaka City Naniwa Junior High School, has witnessed significant transformations throughout its history. Initially serving the entire Naniwa ward, it shared temporary facilities with other schools. The school relocated in 1948 to the former Sugiyama National School site. This site, near today’s Sugiyama Station, housed the growing student population. Just a year later, in 1949, the school was renamed Naniwa West Junior High School due to the establishment of a second junior high school in the district. Osaka City Naniwa Junior High School underwent further changes. In 1953, a branch school was established at the former site of Naniwa High School, introducing a nurturing class for children with intellectual disabilities. This marked an important step in inclusive education within Osaka City. The main school building finally settled at its current location in 1965 after a period of transition. The school’s name officially changed to Osaka City Naniwa Junior High School in 1956. This concludes our visit to Osaka City Naniwa Junior High School, a testament to resilience and adaptation within Osaka’s vibrant educational landscape.
