Osaka Municipal Miyakojima Technical High School a testament to time. Established in 1909 it began as Osaka Industrial School’s night school. Imagine the students then their dedication to learning under the dim gaslights. The school changed names several times. It became Osaka Industrial Supplementary School in 1920. Later Osaka Industrial Special Training School in 1924. Finally Osaka Municipal Miyakojima Industrial Special Training School in 1926. The school moved to its current location in 1925. This wasn’t just a relocation. It symbolized a step towards a brighter future. A future built on skill and innovation.

The Second World War left its scars. Air raids damaged the building. The school temporarily closed. Other schools joined forces with Miyakojima to continue education. These were Osaka Municipal Naniwa Industrial School’s second branch and Osaka Municipal Higashi second Industrial School. Think of the resilience shown the determination not to let war stop learning. This merged entity continued under the name Osaka Municipal Miyakojima Technical High School. The post-war era saw educational reform. In 1948 the school became a full-fledged high school. A new era began. New subjects were added reflecting a changing world. General subjects joined the existing technical ones. This decision made the school even more accessible. It showed a commitment to comprehensive education.

The school expanded its courses in the 1990s. The curriculum modernized. Single-subject courses replaced the older combined ones. Today Osaka Municipal Miyakojima Technical High School offers diverse subjects. These include mechanical engineering electrical engineering and architecture. Even civil engineering is taught. This breadth of study shows the school’s adaptability. It continues to prepare students for a variety of careers.

The school proudly boasts notable alumni. One is Sanjuro Minami a skilled engineer. He invented the automatic electric motor. His ingenuity shaped the region. This showcases the lasting impact of the school. It inspired generations of inventors and builders.

However the end is near. The Osaka Municipal Miyakojima Technical High School will close in March 2025. Its legacy will live on through its former students. Their achievements and contributions to society will be a testament to its success. As we stand here today let us reflect on its rich history.
