Established in 1875 Osaka City Yōka Elementary School stands before you. Its history stretches back to the Meiji era. The school’s name Yōka reflects its location. It combined characters from four districts Higashi-Naniwa Ikuno and Sumiyoshi. These districts once formed its school zone.

The school wasn’t always here. Originally it opened as the eighth elementary school in Higashinari Ward. It started in a Buddhist temple. Later it was renamed Higashinari Public Shinzaike Elementary School. The school moved to its current location in 1896.
