Consider this: a school closing its doors forever. That’s the story of Osaka Municipal Tajima Elementary School. This public elementary school once stood in Ikuno Ward Osaka. It closed in March 2022.
Osaka Municipal Tajima Elementary School has a unique history. It opened on April 1 1947. The school’s establishment came after a separation from Osaka Municipal Ikuno Elementary School. It was the first newly established elementary school in Osaka City. This happened after the new school system was created.
Many children from foreign countries attended the school. Children with roots abroad also studied there. Because of this diverse student body ethnic classes were available.
But the number of children in the Ikuno area decreased. Due to this decline Osaka Municipal Tajima Elementary School consolidated with Osaka Municipal Ikuno South Elementary School.
In April 2022 Osaka Municipal Tajima South Elementary School opened. It is now known as Tajima South Elementary and Junior High School. It is an integrated school. With this change Osaka Municipal Tajima Elementary School closed at the end of March 2022.
The school had a song created in January 1958. In 1983 ethnic classes started. A lecture hall and gymnasium were completed in March 1991. A pool was added in February 1993.
The school served specific areas in Ikuno Ward. These included parts of Tajima and Tateno. Graduates typically advanced to Tajima Junior High School.
Osaka Municipal Tajima Elementary School played an important role in its community. It provided education and support to many students. While the physical school is gone its legacy remains. It lives on in the memories of its students and staff. The new Tajima South Elementary and Junior High School continues this mission. It provides education for the community.
