In 1947, amidst the post-war reforms, Osaka’s Ikuno Junior High School was established. Originally named the Osaka City Ikuno Third Junior High School, it started within the walls of Higashi Momogani Elementary School. The school initially served as a boys’ school. However, in 1948, it exchanged students with the Osaka City Ikuno Second Junior High School (later known as the Osaka City Tsuruhashi Junior High School), a girls’ school, and reorganized its districts. This led to Ikuno Junior High School becoming co-educational. A year later, in 1949, the school further expanded by separating from Osaka City Tajima Junior High School. Fast forward to 2022, and Ikuno Junior High School played a crucial role in the formation of the Osaka City Ikuno Mirai Gakuen, the city’s first combined elementary and junior high school. The Mirai Gakuen occupies the former grounds of both Ikuno Junior High School and Osaka City Nishi-Ikuno Elementary School, creating a new chapter in the history of education in this Osaka district. The school song of Ikuno Junior High lives on. It’s sung at the new Mirai Gakuen, a testament to the legacy of Ikuno Junior High School.
