Osaka City Sakuranomiya Elementary School’s origins trace back to 1873. It began as Aioi Jōshō Elementary School. Later in 1880, Noda Jōshō Elementary School was established. These two schools served their communities well.
As the number of students grew, the schools needed more space. A plan emerged to merge Aioi and Noda Elementary Schools. The goal was to build a larger school at the center of the school district. This led to the creation of Sakuranomiya Elementary School.
Choosing a name was not easy. Officials and experts debated at length. Finally the principal suggested using the name of the local shrine Sakuranomiya Shrine. This idea was well-received and Sakuranomiya Elementary School was named.
The school’s location near Kyobashi Station makes it accessible. It is surrounded by buildings and homes. Yet, green spaces like Higashinoda Park and the Mōriguchi Inari Shrine are close.
