Stepping back in time, imagine Osaka just after World War II. The year is 1948. Amidst the recovering city, Osaka City Sakurayama Junior High School first opened its doors. Initially, it bore the name Osaka City Miyajima Second Junior High School. This school, right here, stands as a testament to resilience, built on the grounds of the former Higashinomiya National School, which was destroyed during the war. Osaka City Sakurayama Junior High School’s name is steeped in history. It temporarily occupied the old buildings of Sakurayama Girls’ High School. Its proximity to the Sakurayama Palace Gardens further cemented its name. In 1952, the school moved to its current location, the former site of the Higashinomiya National School. This relocation coincided with Kita Yoshino Junior High School’s move, marking a new chapter for both institutions. The school serves a specific area within the Miyakojima Ward. It caters to students from Higashi Miyakojima Elementary School and Sakurayama Elementary School. Its reach extends to all areas of Katamachi 1-chome and 2-chome, Amijimacho, Higashinomiya 1-chome through 5-chome, Miyakojima Minami Dori 2-chome, Miyakojima Naka Dori 2-chome and 3-chome, and Miyakojima Hondori 4-chome and 5-chome. It also partially covers Nakanomura 1-chome, Nakanomura 2-chome, Miyakojima Kita Dori 2-chome, and Uchidai 1-chome.
