We stand before Osaka City Seimei-gaoka Minami Elementary School in Abeno Ward, Osaka. It’s a place where the echoes of history intertwine with the vibrant energy of young minds. Osaka City Seimei-gaoka Minami Elementary School was established in 1988. However, its story begins earlier, in the 1950s, with the overcrowding of Seimei-gaoka Elementary. This school, with its 1500-2000 pupils, faced severe classroom shortages. The need for a solution led to the idea of a branch school in the 1980s. In 1986, the branch school opened, initially housing students from the southern part of the school district. This temporary structure, built on the site of Kubota’s former home, paved the way for the independent Osaka City Seimei-gaoka Minami Elementary School. Uniquely, the school was designed as the first prefabricated school building within Osaka City. In 1988, Osaka City Seimei-gaoka Minami Elementary School officially opened its doors, welcoming students from 5th grade and below. The school adopted the motto “To foster children who live vibrantly and with effort”. Osaka City Seimei-gaoka Minami Elementary School isn’t just about academics. It prioritizes character development and resilience. They have a clear “Basic Policy for Bullying Prevention,” emphasizing the importance of moral education and character building. They address issues like smartphone and personal computer usage and offer guidance and support to both victims and perpetrators of bullying. They even hold regular events like the “Seimei Minami Carnival.” Educational initiatives include special lectures like general first aid training, which speaks to the school’s holistic approach to education. Graduates typically move on to Osaka City Konan Junior High School, continuing their educational journey within the city.
