From orphanage to school. That’s the incredible journey of Osaka Shiritsu Kosai Shogakko. Here we stand, before a place that has witnessed over a century of growth and transformation. Osaka Shiritsu Kosai Shogakko, established in 1913, wasn’t always a public school. It began as a private institution, the Kosaijima Elementary School, founded by the philanthropic Kosai-kai. Originally located in Ikuno-ku, the school relocated here in 1933. This move marked a significant step in its evolution. In 1944, the school transitioned into public hands under the Osaka City government. It became the Kosai-in. With the educational reforms of 1947, it was reborn as Osaka Shiritsu Kosai Shogakko and Chugakko, establishing both elementary and middle school levels. Did you know this school shares its grounds and facilities with a children’s home and a short-term treatment facility for emotional and behavioral disorders? It serves children living at these facilities. This close relationship speaks volumes about the school’s commitment to inclusivity and care. Osaka Shiritsu Kosai Shogakko is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a testament to the enduring power of education and community. It represents a beacon of hope for generations of children. Its history intertwines with the city’s own growth and transformation.
