In 1873, a school was established. It was known as the Fourth District Third Ward Elementary School in Osaka. This school, which eventually became Osaka Shiritsu Daian Nishi Elementary School, has a rich history. Let’s delve into the story of Daian Nishi Elementary. The school underwent several name changes throughout the years. It transitioned from Daido Elementary to Chikishima Elementary. In 1926, it was renamed Osaka Shiritsu Daianjima Elementary School. A significant move occurred in 1927. The school relocated to 450 Nishidaido-cho in Higashiku, Osaka. This location is now the site of Daian Nishi Elementary School. During World War II, the school was affected by the evacuation of children from major cities. Children from Daian Kokumin School, which Daian Nishi was known as during that time, were evacuated to rural areas. Following the war and educational reforms, the school became Osaka Shiritsu Daian Elementary School in 1947. The post-war period saw a housing boom in the area. This led to a rise in the number of children and the establishment of more schools. As a result, Daian Elementary’s district shrank. A branch school opened in the Takatsuki area in 1958, later becoming independent as Takatsuki Elementary. Another branch school opened in the Daisaku area in 1959, which also became independent as Daisaku Elementary School in 1964. In 1973, Daian Elementary moved to its present location. Some of its district was then incorporated into the newly opened Kosaka Elementary School. A branch school was established at the former site in 1977 due to increasing student numbers. Finally, in 1980, this branch school became Osaka Shiritsu Daian Nishi Elementary School. The original school was renamed Osaka Shiritsu Daian Higashi Elementary School. Daian Nishi and Daian Higashi share the same school song, a reflection of their shared history. Daian Nishi Elementary serves the southern part of Higashiku, Osaka. Graduates typically move on to Ryokuei Junior High School. The school’s motto is “strong, right, and bright.” This embodies the spirit of this school with its fascinating history.
