In 1987, Osaka City Minami Elementary School opened its doors. This wasn’t just any new school. Osaka City Minami Elementary School arose from the merger of three historic schools: Daisho, Doinin, and Ashiike Elementary Schools. Later, it also absorbed Seihou Elementary. Each predecessor held a unique place in Osaka’s educational landscape, dating back to the Meiji era. The school’s motto, “Everyone, Work together, Create the future,” reflects this rich history and the community’s collaborative spirit. Osaka City Minami Elementary School stands on the former grounds of Daisho Elementary. This location itself has seen the passage of time and educational transformations. From housing Daisho and later, becoming the site of Osaka City Minami Elementary, this place echoes with the energy of generations of students. In the 2010s, Osaka City Minami Elementary School faced a new challenge. The number of students with roots in other countries increased dramatically. The school embraced this diversity. It fostered multicultural and international understanding education, working closely with the local community. This commitment extends beyond the classroom. It reaches into local studies and human rights education, creating a rich learning environment. This dedication earned Osaka City Minami Elementary School recognition as a UNESCO School in 2018. The school’s emblem, designed with the help of Osaka City Kogei High School’s design department, symbolizes the unity of the past and the promise of the future.
