Osaka Chinese School’s story began in 1946. It was initially known as the Kansai Chinese National Literature School. In 1953 the school moved to its current location.

The Osaka Prefectural government recognizes Osaka Chinese School. It classifies it as a miscellaneous school. Osaka’s municipal government allows OCS graduates to take public high school exams if they are Chinese citizens or of Chinese descent. However this permission is not granted to OCS graduates of Japanese citizenship without Chinese descent.
The school’s curriculum is noteworthy. The elementary school uses textbooks published in the Republic of China. The middle school uses Japanese Ministry of Education approved textbooks. This prepares students for Japanese high schools. The school teaches Chinese English and Japanese.
