“Inquiries about books? The Daito City Central Library can help.” That is what they say. The Daito City Central Library opened in April 1987. It is one of three libraries in Daito City. The others are the West Library and the East Library.

The Daito City Central Library is not alone. It resides within the Daito City Central Community Center. This also houses a cultural hall. You will also find a folk museum here.

Inside the Daito City Central Library, about 134000 books await. There are also 137 journals available. If you want to sit and read there are 38 seats. The library itself covers 850 square meters.

Want to borrow a book from the Daito City Central Library? You will need a library card. Anyone who lives, works, or studies in Daito City can get one. Even those from nearby cities can borrow books. However reservations are not available to them. Library members can borrow up to 10 items. They can keep them for two weeks. You can renew materials once. That is unless someone else has reserved them. Reference books cannot be borrowed. Neither can newspapers. These must be used in the library. The Daito City Central Library has an online catalog. It is called OPAC. You can use it to find books. Computers with OPAC are near the counter.

Need to return a book? Use the circulation desk when the library is open. If it is closed there is a book return box. Find it outside the Daito Cultural Center entrance.

The Daito City Central Library also offers other services. Internet computers are available. You can reserve them at the reference desk. There is also a reference corner. Here you can study with library books. Just reserve a table. Copies cost 10 yen. Color copies are 50 yen.

Please note a few rules at the Daito City Central Library. Food and drinks are not allowed. Smoking is not permitted. Using cell phones is also not allowed.

The Daito City Central Library is open most days. Its hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from Monday to Sunday. On national holidays it closes earlier at 5:00 p.m. It is closed the first three Mondays of the month. It is also closed for New Year holidays. The library closes during book collection inspections too.

The Daito City Central Library also runs a book-mobile service. It is called “Yamanami-go.” It visits six stations in the city twice a month. You can borrow and return books at any station.
