大仏（方広寺）旧境内南限 Stele

The \u5927\u4ecf\uff08\u65b9\u5e83\u5bfa\uff09\u65e7\u5883\u5185\u5357\u9650 Stele is more than just a stone. It’s a silent sentinel marking the boundary of what was once a magnificent temple. That temple was Hōkō-ji, a testament to the ambition of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Hideyoshi, a powerful feudal lord, envisioned a grand Daibutsu, a Great Buddha. He wanted a Daibutsu even larger than the one in Nara. Construction began in 1586 and involved thousands of workers. Imagine the scene back then. The air thick with the clang of hammers and chisels, the ground trembling under the weight of countless feet. But Hōkō-ji, much like the ambitions of men, was not meant to last. An earthquake in 1596 dealt the temple a severe blow, collapsing the towering Daibutsu. Despite attempts at reconstruction by Hideyoshi’s son, Hōkō-ji was ravaged by fires and earthquakes. The final blow came in 1798 when a fire engulfed the wooden structures, leaving little behind.
