The surrounding area was once home to several other now-abandoned temples, such as the Shinto shrine Ikutama Jinja, Chōshuji Temple, and Zennen-ji Temple. Perhaps this Jizō Bosatsu statue once graced one of these lost temples, eventually finding its home at Jizō-ji.
