“What if these walls could talk?” I wonder. They would likely tell tales of students past and present within the halls of Yotsukaido Municipal Yotsukaido Junior High School.
Welcome to Yotsukaido Municipal Yotsukaido Junior High School. It is more than just a school building. It is a place of history and community.
Established in 1960 the school has a rich past. It began by merging the former Chiyoda Junior High School and Goei Junior High School. These schools were in the old Chiyoda town area. The location was on the site of a former army field artillery school.
Initially the buildings were wooden barracks. These barracks had been repurposed from the military. In 1962 Yotsukaido Municipal Yotsukaido Junior High School moved. It relocated to the site of the current Ito Yokado. That year marked the completion of the first proper school building. It was made of reinforced concrete.
A notable pine tree stands behind the main gate. Its trunk is large and bends to the left. This pine tree was damaged in a typhoon. When the school moved to its current location in the Mefiwa district the pine tree came too. It embodies the hope to grow strong despite setbacks.
In 1975 Chiyoda Junior High School and Goei Junior High School were newly separated from Yotsukaido Municipal Yotsukaido Junior High School. In 1979 Yotsukaido West Junior High School was also newly separated. Furthermore in 1987 Yotsukaido North Junior High School was newly separated.
The school celebrated its 50th anniversary November 14 2009. This milestone highlights its long service to the community.
Yotsukaido Municipal Yotsukaido Junior High School has a school motto. It promotes self-reliance and contribution. The school continues to educate future generations. It encourages them to embody these principles. As you stand here consider the many students who have passed through. They have all contributed to the school’s ongoing story.
