Right here, at Yotsukaido Misora Elementary School, countless children have embarked on their educational journeys since its humble beginnings in 1890 as the Chiyoda Village Elementary School. Originally a simple annex, it quickly blossomed, changing names several times as it grew. It became the Rokubo Island Regular Elementary School in 1893, then moved to its present location in 1900, becoming the Yotsukaido Island Regular Elementary School. As the years passed and the town developed, it transformed again into Yotsukaido Island Regular Higher Elementary School in 1906, then Chiyoda Town Yotsukaido National School in 1940 and 1941. With the merger of Chiyoda Town and Asahi Village in 1955, Yotsukaido Town was born, and our school adopted its current name, Yotsukaido Misora Elementary School. Finally, with the city’s incorporation in 1981, it became the Yotsukaido City Yotsukaido Elementary School. But there’s more to Misora Elementary than just its name changes. Yotsukaido Misora Elementary School isn’t just about reading, writing, and arithmetic. It has been a pioneer in English language education. Selected as a model school in 2009, it paved the way for English education throughout the city. Imagine first-graders confidently engaging with English, not just speaking and listening, but reading and writing too! Yotsukaido Misora Elementary has also implemented traffic safety measures, adding brightly colored green pavement markings and protective bollards to keep children safe.
