Sichuan Normal University didn’t always stand here. Its story begins far away in Northeast China. Founded as part of the National Northeastern University it was forced to relocate during the Japanese invasion. In 1938 it found a temporary home in Santai. After the war the main university returned north. But a part of it remained.
This remnant became the Northern Sichuan Workers and Peasants College. It later evolved into Northern Sichuan University then moved to Nanchong. A series of mergers in 1952 shaped its present form. Sichuan Teachers College emerged incorporating parts of several institutions. Finally in 1985 it officially became Sichuan Normal University. This university has grown significantly.
