Opened in 1962, Suita City Satake Elementary School has a rich history. It stands as a testament to the growth and change of the Senri New Town area. Originally called Suita City Senriokaoka Elementary School, this institution began humbly. It first opened its doors in the present location of the Suita City Satake Kindergarten. Later, in November 1962, it was renamed Suita City Satake Elementary School. The school moved to its current location in 1964. The current building was designed by the renowned architect, Wataru Hashizume. Suita City Satake Elementary School has always maintained close ties with the community. The school emblem, a stylized bamboo leaf, reflects this connection. It symbolizes the strength and resilience of the bamboo, much like the community itself. This design reflects the area’s history, where bamboo forests were cleared to make way for the school grounds. “Satake” itself translates to “beautiful bamboo platform,” honoring the land’s past. An interesting fact about Suita City Satake Elementary School is its initial plan as part of the Senri New Town urban development. The original proposal called for a three-school system. This system would have one main school for upper elementary grades and two branch schools for lower grades. These branch schools would be located near kindergartens to enhance early childhood education. However, due to financial constraints and concerns about educational disparities, this plan was abandoned. The school adopted the motto: “Working together like the three lobes of a leaf. Growing like a stretching bamboo.” It emphasizes collaboration between the community, parents, and the school. This collaboration focuses on fostering a love for their town in the children.
