Across the landscape stretches the Nanhuan Road Bridge. It’s a testament to modern engineering and a landmark in Beijing’s Changping District. Completed in 2008, the Nanhuan Road Bridge isn’t just a bridge. It’s a symbol of Changping’s growth, connecting the old and new areas of the district. This cable-stayed bridge is the largest of its kind in North China. It spans 750 meters across the flood plain of the East Sha River.

The Nanhuan Road Bridge is a marvel of design. The main bridge section is a double-towered, double-cable-plane, self-anchored suspension bridge, stretching an impressive 316 meters. Its main span reaches 175 meters, with the main towers standing tall at 66.9 meters. The bridge has six lanes, three in each direction, flowing smoothly across the East Sha River. The bridge’s innovative design, with no upper crossbeam between the two main towers, creates a sense of openness and upward momentum. This symbolizes the burgeoning economic development of Changping District. The bridge is beautifully illuminated at night, transforming it into a spectacle of light.

The construction of the Nanhuan Road Bridge was a feat of engineering. The project implemented over 30 new technologies, materials, and techniques. This pushed the boundaries of bridge construction in China. The total length of welds on the bridge exceeds 250,000 meters. The steel structure construction itself took just 18 months, from October 2005 to May 2007. Even more impressive, the bridge deck was assembled in a mere five months, from April to October 2006. This rapid construction set a new record in Chinese bridge-building history. Throughout the construction process, safety, quality, progress, investment control, environmental protection, and civilized construction were prioritized. The project received the prestigious Changcheng Cup Gold Award for its outstanding construction management in 2007. The Nanhuan Road Bridge has become more than just a transportation link. It’s a scenic landmark and a new tourist attraction in Beijing, a true symbol of Changping District.
