From humble beginnings as an agricultural experiment station in 1909, South China Agricultural University (SCAU) has blossomed into a renowned institution. Here we stand before the administrative heart of SCAU, the 行政楼. This building pulsates with the energy of progress, echoing the university’s journey through time. SCAU’s roots intertwine with the very history of Guangdong. Initially known as Guangdong province’s agricultural experiment station and Affiliated Institute of Agriculture, it transitioned into the Guangdong Province Public Agricultural School in 1917, marking the start of its formal degree programs. The winds of change swept through in 1924, leading to its incorporation into Guangdong University as the College of Agriculture. Just two years later, it became part of National Sun Yat-sen University. It was during this period that SCAU’s campus began to take shape. Sun Yat-sen University acquired a vast expanse of land in Shipai, allowing for the rapid growth of the agricultural college. The year 1952 brought about a significant transformation. The nationwide reorganization of universities led to the creation of South China Agricultural College (华南农学院), merging agricultural resources from several southern provinces. This pivotal moment solidified SCAU’s prominence. The university’s reputation continued to soar. In 1979, it earned the prestigious title of National Key University. The name South China Agricultural University was officially adopted in 1984, reflecting its comprehensive nature. In 2000, another shift occurred. SCAU came under the administration of Guangdong Province. This marked a new chapter in its ongoing evolution. The university’s commitment to excellence led to its selection as a Cultivated High-level University of Guangdong Province in 2015. Then, in 2022, SCAU reached a new pinnacle, achieving the distinction of a Double First-Class University in the Double First-Class Construction. The South China Agricultural University 行政楼 stands as a testament to this remarkable history. It is within these walls that decisions are made, shaping the future of agriculture and education in China.
