“Established in 1928” sounds like a history lesson about to begin. We are standing before Chiba City Inai Elementary School. This school is located in Wakaba, Chiba City. It has a rich past. Chiba City Inai Elementary School initially formed from parts of two other schools.
In April 1928 Chiba First Ordinary Higher Elementary School gave eight classes to the new school. Chiba Second Ordinary Higher Elementary School provided six classes. Together with the twelve classes of this school and two branch classes the Inai Ordinary Elementary School was founded.
Its name changed in 1941. It became the Inai National School. Later in 1947 it reverted to Inai Elementary School.
Tragedy struck in 1945. War damage caused a fire that destroyed the school building. Students and teachers relocated to a temporary school building in Tsukimicho. Another fire occurred in 1948. This time the temporary school building was destroyed. Makeshift classrooms were then set up in the old Air Sphere Association barracks. Space was also found in a former replenishment factory. Even the Miyako Elementary School assisted as a temporary school building.
The school district expanded in 1949. Takashimacho was incorporated into the school district. A special class opened in 1959. This class was for students with language impairments. It was the second such class in the entire country. Classes for students with intellectual disabilities started in 1969. Classes for students with hearing difficulties began in 1971.
In 1973 Hokuso Elementary School separated. It became independent from this school. A class for students with emotional impairments was established in 1984.
Chiba City Inai Elementary School has come a long way. It overcame fires and separations. It adapted to the needs of its students. The school continues to serve the community. It provides education and support for children in Chiba City.
