“Why does this school look so new?” you might be wondering. Let’s explore the story of Chiba Municipal Ochi Elementary School. It is a public elementary school in Midori Ward, Chiba City.

Chiba Municipal Ochi Elementary School has a fascinating history. The school’s story began long before its current form. An earlier elementary school with the same name served the Ochi village area. This school operated from 1875 to 1884. It held classes at Jyougenji Temple.

The modern Chiba Municipal Ochi Elementary School was established in 1982. It was created by separating from Chiba Municipal Omokado Elementary School. This separation allowed for a new educational environment.

In 1983 the school established its school song and emblem. These symbols represent the school’s identity.

Chiba Municipal Ochi Elementary School has been involved in various research initiatives. In 1987 and 1988, the Chiba City Board of Education designated it for physical education research. In 1989, the school held a public research presentation on physical education. In 1995, the Chiba City Board of Education designated it for elementary and junior high school education research. In 1998, it became a research promotion school for community-based education.

The school also fosters community engagement. In 2002, the Ochi Midori Boys’ Group was formed. In the same year, it became a Chiba Prefecture NIE practice school.

Chiba Municipal Ochi Elementary School received awards for its educational efforts. In 2004, it received the Chiba City Board of Education Award for Educational Achievement. In 2005, it won the National Biotop Competition Encouragement Award. In 2007, it received the National Biotop Competition Silver Award. Since 2014, it has been a volunteer education promotion cooperation school.

The school’s educational goals focus on developing students. They aim to cultivate children who think for themselves. They want children to learn independently and put their knowledge into practice.

The principal, Suemitsu Usuko, emphasized two important points at the start of the new school year. First, she highlighted the importance of “compassion”. She encouraged students to use kind words. “Hello,” “Let’s do it together,” “I’ll help you,” and “See you later” were examples. These warm greetings and gestures create a positive atmosphere. Second, she stressed the importance of applying knowledge.

So, next time you see Chiba Municipal Ochi Elementary School, remember its journey. It has a rich past and a commitment to shaping young minds.
