Chiba City Masago Higashi Elementary School opened its doors in 2011. This wasn’t just any new beginning. It was a merging of two schools, creating a fresh start for the community. Chiba City Masago Higashi Elementary School, located in Chiba’s Mihama Ward, has a clear mission: “To nurture children of the east who will live richly towards the future.” This speaks volumes about the school’s dedication to its students and their community. They focus on experiential learning. Students visit local institutions like the fire department, police station, and parks, not just reading about them but experiencing them firsthand. Chiba City Masago Higashi Elementary School also has a unique approach to student interaction. Students from first to sixth grade participate in vertical grouping activities. This fosters connections across different age groups, creating a strong sense of community. A special tradition called “Welcome Enrollment” involves the sixth graders welcoming the incoming first graders, easing their transition into elementary school. This school’s commitment to fostering connections extends beyond its walls. They actively engage with Masago Junior High School. Junior high students mentor elementary students in sports and academics. The elementary students even get to observe junior high choir rehearsals. There’s a deep sense of community involvement too. Local volunteers act as “safety watchers.” They provide an extra layer of security and support for the students. Chiba City Masago Higashi Elementary School stands as a testament to the power of community. It’s a place where education goes beyond textbooks, where connections are nurtured, and where the future is embraced with open arms.
