“What shall we name it?” That’s probably what they asked when Chiba Municipal Shiroi Junior High School was founded. Let’s delve into the history of this school. It is located in Wakaba Ward. This junior high school has been a part of the community for many years.
The school’s origins trace back to April 1, 1947. This was during post-war reforms to the education system. At that time, it was established in the Shiroi Community Center. The school was named Chiba-gun Shiroi Village Shiroi Junior High School.
In May 1947, the first entrance ceremony took place. Mr. Yoshimi Ishii was the first principal. There were 212 students in six classes. The faculty consisted of eight staff members.
In 1948, Joheimura Yasukawa donated land for the school. This donation totaled three acres. By June 10, 1948, the school building was completed. It was relocated to its current location. The address is 623 Noazato-cho. The school grounds covered 9000 acres. The building had eight classrooms.
Takao Takahashi became the second principal in December 1948. There were 275 students in seven classes. Mr. Naoyoshi Ikeda was the third principal. He took office in June 1950. The school had 308 students in seven classes.
In March 1955, the town and village merged. The school’s name changed to Izumi Town Shiroi Junior High School. In April 1955, it was renamed Izumi Town Southern Junior High School.
A new school building was completed in October 1954. It had three classrooms. Mr. Shigeru Ogawa became the fourth principal in April 1955. There were 332 students in six classes.
In April 1963, the school merged into Chiba City. The name changed to Chiba Municipal Shiroi Junior High School.
Mr. Giji Osawa became the fifth principal in April 1963. There were 414 students in nine classes. Mr. Tetsuji Nakamura became the sixth principal in April 1964. There were 380 students in nine classes.
The school continued to expand. In June 1964 a three-story school building was added. It had nine classrooms. A pool was completed in July 1964.
Chiba Municipal Shiroi Junior High School hosted city-wide debate conventions. The first was in November 1964.
Mr. Yoshihira Tominaga became the seventh principal in April 1968. There were 334 students in nine classes. Mr. Sachijiro Furukawa became the eighth principal in April 1970. There were 277 students in seven classes.
The school celebrated its 25th anniversary in August 1973. A stone garden was completed in December 1972. Two prefabricated classrooms were added in April 1973.
