Lost in nature beside Koumyouji Temple lies a hidden gem. It is called Chihachisakahotsu.
Chihachisakahotsu is a small shrine in Dazaifu. This shrine is a true power spot. Few people visit making it a tranquil place.
The shrine’s origins are mysterious. Its formal history remains unknown to this day.
Chihachisakahotsu enshrines a deity. This deity was divided from Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. A man named Inazumi Tsutomu brought the deity here.
Next to Chihachisakahotsu stands Itai-e-no-Tou. It is a stone pagoda. Legend says Sugawara no Michizane went to Song Dynasty China in one night. He learned the secrets of Zen from Bucchisho Zenji. He achieved enlightenment.
The pagoda enshrines the Dharma robes. These robes were offered by Tetsuushi Enshin Wajo. He was a disciple of Shoichi Kokushi. Shoichi Kokushi was related to Sugawara no Michizane. Koumyou Zenji Temple was built at the same time as the pagoda.
Locals affectionately call the enshrined deity Gorei-don. They greatly revere and worship it. What exactly is prayed for is a mystery. The shrine’s origins are also unclear.
Some believe Chihachisakahotsu is connected to Sugawara no Michizane. This is because it is located near Itai-e-no-Tou. Itai-e-no-Tou has ties to Sugawara no Michizane.
