Beijing Electronic Science and Technology Institute is more than just a college. It is a crucial research center for information security in China. The institute comprises five departments. Each plays a vital role in shaping future experts.
Let’s take a step back in time. The institute’s origins trace back to 1947. It began as the Youth Training Class of the Central Working Committee. This class was in Xibaipo. In 1949, it merged into the Engineering School. This school belonged to the People’s Revolutionary Military Commission.
The journey of Beijing Electronic Science and Technology Institute continued. In 1952, some departments split off. They joined with other military schools. Together, they formed the Central People’s Government People’s Revolutionary Military Commission Confidential Cadre School. This school underwent several name changes. It eventually became the First Confidential School of the State Council.
The institute moved to Beijing. It was known as Beijing Jixue School. Later, it relocated to Xuanhua. It was then called Xuanhua Jixue School. In 1981, the State Council approved the establishment of Beijing Electronic College. It was in Xiaotangshan. By 1983, the school had moved to Banbidian. It officially started recruiting college students.
In 1992, the State Education Commission approved a new direction. Beijing Electronic College became Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. It started offering undergraduate programs. Correspondence education was added as well. In 1993, Zhongnanhai Amateur University merged into Beijing University of Electronic Science and Technology. In 1999, the college found its current home in Fengtai. It’s in the Fengtai Park of Zhongguancun Science Park.
Leaders have always supported this institution. Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, and Xi Jinping have all written inscriptions for the school. Jiang Zemin even penned the school’s name. Other leaders like Qiao Shi and Wen Jiabao have visited. They offered guidance for its growth.
An interesting side note involves Zhongnanhai Amateur University. Mao Zedong established the Central Government Amateur School in 1948. Liu Shaoqi, a key figure in the Communist Party, served as its principal. The university aimed to educate staff within Zhongnanhai. It eventually merged with Beijing Electronic Science and Technology Institute.
Today, Beijing Electronic Science and Technology Institute continues to evolve. It now has two teaching and research departments. It also features an information security research institute. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering has built three specialized laboratories. These labs focus on electronic information engineering.
