These two schools merged to form Beijing No. 39 Secondary School.
The school’s history is intertwined with a local church. In 1958 the Catholic Church gave Xishiku Church to the state. Under the guidance of the Beijing Municipal Committee, the school moved. It shifted from the east side of the church to the west side. The church building became part of the school. The original school buildings became a factory site. It was the Beijing Engineering Reader Machine Factory. Yet both the factory and Beijing No. 39 Secondary School were under the same Party Committee leadership.
During the same year educational reforms began. Beijing No. 39 Secondary School experimented with a part-work, part-study system. This innovative approach gained attention from Beijing’s news media. By 1966 six graduating classes had completed this unique program. Graduates received diplomas with qualifications in both specialized skills and general high school studies.
However, the part-work, part-study system ended in 1968. In 1985 the government addressed religious policies. The school returned the former church buildings to the Patriotic Catholic Association.
