Did the aroma of fresh milk ever lead you to a stock exchange listing? Here at Beijing Sanyuan Foods Co., Ltd., it practically did. Beijing Sanyuan Foods started in 1956 as a humble milk station. It later became Beijing City Milk Company in 1968, nourishing the city’s residents. Beijing Sanyuan Foods officially emerged in 1997, merging dairy resources and a 50% stake in wheat gluten.

Beijing Sanyuan Foods made history. In 1998, they incorporated the former Shuangqiao Dairy Factory. This factory, equipped with imported automated production equipment from Germany and Switzerland, pioneered the use of Tetra Pak and Tetra Brik packaging for milk in mainland China. This positioned Beijing Sanyuan Foods at the forefront of dairy innovation. Later, in 2001, it formally became Beijing Sanyuan Foods Co., Ltd. In 2003, Beijing Sanyuan Foods went public, offering 150 million common shares and listing on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

Beijing Sanyuan Foods faced a significant challenge during the 2008 Chinese milk product contamination scandal. While their products weren’t found to contain melamine, the scare led to a surge in demand for their milk in Beijing. This caused a temporary buying frenzy. The company’s stock price soared for six consecutive trading days before they voluntarily suspended trading.

Beijing Sanyuan Foods wasn’t just about business. They acquired a stake in the troubled Sanlu Group in 2009 during its bankruptcy proceedings. Furthermore, they expanded their reach in 2011 by partnering with New Hope to acquire Hunan Taizi Milk Company. Beijing Sanyuan Foods also invested heavily in a new dairy industrial park in Daxing District. This demonstrated their commitment to modernizing and expanding their production capabilities.

Beyond production, Beijing Sanyuan Foods champions dairy education and appreciation. They house the Capital Dairy Science Museum, a unique space dedicated to milk. This museum boasts four exhibition halls and several interactive vehicle compartments. It offers a fascinating journey through the history of Beijing’s dairy industry. It also provides insights into modern, automated milk production. Visitors can witness the entire process firsthand. They can even experience the company’s commitment to knowledge sharing, engaging with exhibits that blend education and entertainment. Beijing Sanyuan Foods has thus become more than just a dairy company. It’s a testament to the evolution of an industry. It’s a hub for innovation and learning. It’s a vital part of Beijing’s food story.
