Rumors and whispers. That’s how many people know Beisanxian Nanmen. It’s not just a name on a map. Beisanxian Nanmen represents a unique area near Beijing. It consists of Sanhe City, Dachang Hui Autonomous County, and Xianghe County. These areas are officially under the jurisdiction of Langfang City in Hebei province. Yet, they are geographically closer to Beijing and Tianjin than to the rest of Hebei. This has created a sort of “enclave” situation. Beisanxian Nanmen is nestled between Beijing’s Pinggu District, Shunyi District, Tongzhou District, and Tianjin’s Wuqing District and Baodi District. This location has led to a unique phenomenon. Many Beijingers, unable to afford housing in the capital, have settled in Beisanxian. This has resulted in a significant commuter population. They travel to Beijing for work, creating a distinct “commuter tribe.” This geographic peculiarity has also impacted urban planning. Official documents highlight the evolving relationship between Tongzhou District and Beisanxian. The terminology has shifted from “coordinated development” to “integrated development” and now “integrated high-quality development”. This demonstrates the increasing interconnectedness of these areas. Beisanxian covers a substantial area, approximately 1258 square kilometers. It encompasses 24 townships and boasts a population of over 1.1 million. Its proximity to Beijing has made it an attractive location for both residents and businesses. Beisanxian’s development is intertwined with the broader Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integrated development strategy. This aims to create a world-class city cluster centered around Beijing. The area is becoming increasingly linked to Beijing, both physically and economically. This integration is evident in improved transportation links, including highways, railways, and intercity buses. It’s a story of geographic quirks, housing pressures, and strategic development. Beisanxian Nanmen isn’t just a place. It’s a microcosm of China’s rapid urbanization and regional integration.
