A silent sentinel stands before us. This is the tomb of Comrade Xie De’yi. Built in May 1971 it covers 2500 square meters.

Xie De’yi was a local man from Dazhong Baoyou Village. He joined the Eighth Route Army in 1942 and the Communist Party in 1944. In 1945 he was sent to the Sixth District. His mission was to rebuild the party’s organization. He also formed a local militia. Under his leadership each village formed its own peasant self-defense corps. They established farmers’ associations women’s rescue societies and children’s groups. They fought against local bullies and landlords. The revolutionary movement thrived in the Sixth District thanks to his efforts.

Tragedy struck on September 22 1946. Xie De’yi was attending a secret meeting in Heipailiang Village. Betrayed he was captured and murdered the next day. He was only 22 years old. His sacrifice is remembered here at this cemetery. The area surrounding Xie De’yi’s tomb reflects this history.

This is more than just a cemetery. It is a testament to courage and sacrifice. It is a place of quiet reflection on a life cut short. A life dedicated to the revolution. It stands as a reminder of the struggles and triumphs of the past. The story of Xie De’yi is a powerful reminder of the human cost of revolution. Yet also a tribute to the dedication and resilience of those who fought for a better future. This is a significant landmark in Beijing. Remember this site. Remember Xie De’yi.
