Nestled in the heart of Chiba, Sakata Municipal Terasaki Elementary School has witnessed generations of children pass through its doors. It stands as a testament to the growth and evolution of Sakura City. Established on April 1, 1967, Sakata Municipal Terasaki Elementary School originally separated from Sakata Municipal Negishi Elementary School due to shifting district boundaries. The school’s name, Terasaki, reflects the area it serves within Sakura City. The initial enrollment was 138 students, divided into six classes with a staff of 12. The opening ceremony took place on April 4, followed by the start of classes on April 6, and the entrance ceremony on April 7. Over the years, Terasaki Elementary experienced significant growth. By May 1, 1968, the student population had reached 274, spanning nine classes and supported by 16 staff members. The school continued to expand. In February 1968, a gymnasium was completed. Shortly after, on March 5, the school song was established. By 1969, Terasaki Elementary boasted 410 students, 13 classes, and 20 staff members. Its flag and emblem were established in the following year. Further expansion occurred in 1971, with the addition of six standard classrooms and three multi-purpose rooms. A “zoo” was also completed. By May 1st, the school housed 533 students, 17 classes, and 25 staff. Terasaki Elementary School continued to flourish throughout the 1970s and beyond. The school’s history reveals not only its physical growth but also its commitment to education. In 1973, the school hosted an open research meeting designated by the Inzai City and City Board of Education. International exchange programs began in 1975 with the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Students participated in both hosting and visiting events, fostering global connections. In 1976, computers were introduced to the school, with 21 units installed. A homepage followed in 1977, ushering the school into the digital age. Sakata Municipal Terasaki Elementary School stands today as a vibrant educational institution. It carries a rich history interwoven with the development of Sakura City.
