Opened in 1956, Suminoe Boat Race Course quickly became a hub for the sport. It even hosted the very first Special Grade (SG) race in 1961.

These races, along with the Gold Cup, are considered the “Suminoe Three Big Races”. Beyond these major events, Suminoe Boat Race Course also hosts regular night races, known as the “Suminoe City Night Races”. Since 2006, these night races have filled the evenings with excitement, complementing daytime races at the nearby Nijo Boat Race Course.
