What if I told you that this school began as a branch within another? Today we stand before Kyoto Municipal Haruhioka Junior High School. It is a public junior high school in Fushimi Ward Kyoto. This school has a history that might surprise you.

Let’s dive into the story of Kyoto Municipal Haruhioka Junior High School. It started as the South Branch of Kyoto Municipal Daigo Junior High School in April 1986. At that time the South Branch was located within Daigo Junior High School.

The construction of a new school building was completed in July 1986. In September 1986 the school’s name was decided. It became Kyoto Municipal Haruhioka Junior High School. That same month the new school building opened. Classes began there.

The official opening ceremony for Kyoto Municipal Haruhioka Junior High School took place in April 1987. In March 1990 a ball protection net was installed. It was placed on the north side of the grounds. A computer room was established in March 1991. Air conditioning was installed in the meeting room in July 1993. More ball protection nets were added to the school grounds in March 1996.

Kyoto Municipal Haruhioka Junior High School is near several train stations. Ishida Station is about 1.4 km away. Daigo Station is approximately 1.9 km from the school. Rokujizo Station is around 2.4 km away.

The designated school districts include Kyoto Municipal Hino Elementary School and Kyoto Municipal Haruhino Elementary School. Nearby schools include Kyoto Municipal Daigo Junior High School and Kyoto Municipal Kuritsuhara Junior High School. Also close are Kyoto Municipal Oharigi Junior High School and Uji Municipal Kiwari Junior High School.

Notably the singer Sae Oiyama is an alumna of Kyoto Municipal Haruhioka Junior High School. The school’s history is recorded in a commemorative publication. It is titled “Kyoto Municipal Haruhioka Junior High School Establishment 10th Anniversary”. It was created by the Kyoto Municipal Haruhioka Junior High School Establishment 10th Anniversary Project Executive Committee in March 1997.
