Spanning the bustling cityscape, the Jingkai Expressway, or as it’s known in Chinese, 京开高速框架, stands as a testament to Beijing’s modern development. This vital artery, a key section of the larger Daguang Expressway (G45), connects the heart of Beijing to the southern districts and beyond. The Jingkai Expressway begins its journey at Beijing’s 2nd Ring Road, a rarity amongst the city’s expressways. Imagine the constant flow of vehicles traversing this crucial route, connecting the city’s core to its outskirts. Initially, the Jingkai Expressway stretches out with three lanes in each direction. This initial section lacks emergency lanes. This makes it somewhat sub-standard. The expressway quickly intersects with the 3rd Ring Road. Here, it expands to four lanes in each direction before meeting the 4th Ring Road. South of this intersection, the Jingkai Expressway narrows again to three lanes per side as it navigates through Beijing’s industrial heartland. Before reaching the 5th Ring Road, drivers pass through a toll station. The industrial landscape continues for a few more kilometers until the expressway crosses the 6th Ring Road. Here, it transitions once more, slimming down to two lanes in each direction as it leaves the urban sprawl of Beijing. Approximately 20 kilometers further south, the Jingkai Expressway reaches its end. From this point, National Highway G106 continues the journey towards Kaifeng. While the Jingkai Expressway bears the name of both Beijing and Kaifeng, it doesn’t actually reach the latter city. Its name, derived from the two cities, speaks to a broader connection. The Jingkai Expressway stretches for 38 kilometers within Beijing. The precise opening date of the Jingkai Expressway remains elusive. However, records suggest it was around the year 2000. The section closer to the 2nd Ring Road is likely older, a testament to the city’s ongoing expansion and development.
