A 280-meter-long wooden giant suspended 50 meters above the ground, one of the largest pedestrian suspension bridges in Japan. Completed in 1997, Hoshi no Buranko was built for the 52nd National Sports Festival held in Katano City. It wasn’t just about sport, though. The city’s connection to the stars played a vital role. Katano is associated with the Tanabata legend, a celestial love story. This legend, the “starry” location, and the bridge’s swinging nature all contributed to its nickname, “Star Swing”.
