Four thousand six hundred kilograms. That’s the weight of the Shahe Bainian Building. Can you imagine lifting that?

The Shahe Bainian Building stands before you. It’s a testament to Guangzhou’s history. This building wasn’t always here. It was built in 1914. That’s 112 years of history! For many years it was part of the old campus of the Lingnan University. It’s a remarkable example of early 20th-century architecture in Guangzhou. The building’s unique four-sloped gable roof is a nod to traditional Southern Chinese design.

But its location became a problem. The surrounding roads and land were developed. This created drainage issues. So the authorities took a bold step. They moved the entire building. The Shahe Bainian Building was carefully lifted and relocated. The entire process involved intricate engineering. It took over 130 days to complete the move. The building was raised 2.3 meters. It was shifted 36.45 meters to the northwest. The building was rotated 69.26 degrees. The China Construction Fifth Bureau oversaw the project. They used advanced technology. This included self-leveling dual-directional crawler vehicles. A PLC synchronous lifting system ensured a smooth and safe movement. Incredibly the entire move was completed with less than a 10-millimeter deviation.

After the move the building underwent repairs and reinforcement. Now it stands as a symbol of preservation. The Shahe Bainian Building demonstrates Guangzhou’s commitment to its cultural heritage. It is a fascinating example of ingenuity and preservation. It shows the city’s respect for its past.

The Shahe Bainian Building is more than just a building. It’s a story of resilience. It represents the careful balance between progress and the preservation of history. It is a living legacy. It stands as a symbol of Guangzhou’s enduring spirit.
