The \u4e8c\u5341\u4eba\u8a0e\u6b7b\u5893 Stele stands in Osaka. It is a reminder of a conflict in 1533. This event involved the Hongan-ji Temple. It also involved followers in Fukushima and nearby areas.
Let me set the stage. In 1533, Rennyo Shonin, the tenth head of Hongan-ji Temple, visited Fukushima and nearby Noda. Problems arose with forces from Sasaki Rokkaku. Locals rose to protect Rennyo Shonin. They fought bravely.
The peasants grabbed swords spears and guns. They stood their ground against the Rokkaku forces. Twenty-one believers sacrificed their lives. This allowed Rennyo Shonin to escape to Kishu, now Wakayama Prefecture.
Later Rennyo Shonin learned of their sacrifice. He honored the fallen. He wrote a memorial. This act of devotion led to erecting the \u4e8c\u5341\u4eba\u8a0e\u6b7b\u5893 Stele. It recognized the sacrifice of these 21 followers.
Rennyo Shonin lived from 1415 to 1499. He revitalized Jodo Shinshu Buddhism. He transformed Hongan-ji into a major religious force.
