Emerging from a vision of integrated development, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) Chengdu stands as a testament to China’s commitment to scientific advancement. This isn’t just any university. UCAS Chengdu represents a unique blend of education, research, and innovation. Established in 2018 through a partnership between the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, UCAS, and the Chengdu branch of UCAS, this institution marks a pivotal moment in the development of the Chengdu Science City. UCAS Chengdu isn’t merely a satellite campus. It’s the largest UCAS campus outside of Beijing in terms of student population, courses offered, and disciplines covered. The campus focuses on six key areas: optical-electrical technology, artificial intelligence, life and health, resources and environment, and microelectronics. UCAS Chengdu houses specialized colleges dedicated to these fields, fostering a vibrant ecosystem of interdisciplinary research and collaboration. Imagine walking through the state-of-the-art facilities of the new campus, which opened in August 2023. Picture attending a lecture delivered by a leading expert in AI or biotechnology. UCAS Chengdu boasts a faculty of over 140 distinguished professors, drawn from the Chengdu branch, UCAS headquarters in Beijing, and other prominent universities in the region. The university offers a unique segmented training model. Students complete an initial six months of concentrated coursework in Beijing before returning to their respective research institutes in Chengdu to engage in practical research projects. This innovative approach allows students to quickly immerse themselves in real-world research, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical application. UCAS Chengdu is not just about scientific pursuit. It’s also about nurturing future leaders and innovators who can contribute to China’s growth and development. The university aims to have 3,000 students and 600 faculty members within five years, producing over 1,000 graduates annually. This ambitious goal reflects UCAS Chengdu’s commitment to shaping the future of science and technology in China and beyond. UCAS Chengdu stands at the heart of a thriving scientific ecosystem, collaborating with research institutes and high-tech companies in the region. This “scientific innovation ecosystem” fosters knowledge exchange and drives technological breakthroughs, contributing to Chengdu’s emergence as a global center for science and technology.
