Nestled within the heart of Longgang District, 上角环新村 stands as a testament to Shenzhen’s remarkable transformation. This urban village, once a maze of cramped alleyways and dilapidated buildings, has emerged as a vibrant community. 上角环新村 showcases the city’s dedication to improving the lives of its residents. Before 2018, 上角环新村 was a place of stark contrasts. Living conditions were challenging. Infrastructure lagged behind the city’s rapid development. But change was on the horizon. A comprehensive urban village renovation project was launched, breathing new life into 上角环新村. Over 1,000 days and nights, the project unfolded, transforming the landscape. The once chaotic jumble of wires and cables disappeared underground. Streets were paved. Parking spaces were created. New amenities sprang up. Playgrounds, basketball courts, and fitness areas now dot the community. Residents like Mr. Lin, who has called 上角环新村 home for over 20 years, have witnessed this metamorphosis firsthand. He recalls the difficult conditions of the past. He expresses his gratitude for the improvements, praising the cleaner environment and the enriched community life that the renovation has brought. The transformation of 上角环新村 was no small feat. The project, costing 38.62 million yuan, tackled a range of infrastructure challenges. Drainage systems were improved. Gas pipelines were laid. Power capacity was expanded. The water supply system underwent a complete overhaul. The renovation covered 36,800 square meters and involved 89 buildings, impacting approximately 5,900 residents. Today, 上角环新村 boasts colorful buildings, neatly arranged along clean streets. The community enjoys a renewed sense of order. It’s almost indistinguishable from surrounding modern neighborhoods. 上角环新村’s transformation is a shining example of the positive impact of Shenzhen’s urban village renewal initiatives. This successful project was even selected as an outstanding project in 2020. It stands as a symbol of the city’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the lives of its citizens and creating a more beautiful and harmonious urban environment.
