Mizuno Crista got its name from its crystal-like appearance. Its structure resembles the organized pattern of crystals. It is a fitting name for such a striking building.
The Mizuno Crista building has quite a history. It was completed in 1992. This was just as Japan’s bubble economy burst. The plan was for it to be in a new city center. But other businesses did not move to the area. The subway extension was delayed. This left Mizuno Crista somewhat isolated. It became inconvenient for employees to commute.
Mizuno employees have a nickname for this building. They call it “MC”. Some think it stands for Mizuno Corporation. Others guess Mizuno Company. But the real answer is simpler. MC stands for Mizuno Crista.
Inside Mizuno Crista is a sports gallery. It is called “Mizuno Sports Logistics Gallery”. Here you can see various sports equipment. The gallery reflects Mizuno’s dedication to sports culture. A crystal object titled “Flame” is displayed.
Let’s talk about the past versus the present. Thirty years ago, things were different here. The company even had a lounge and cafe. These operated into the night. That is a scene you would not see today.
The 31st floor once housed a field cafe. It was named “Stadium”. Sadly, it is now closed. When Mizuno Crista was completed, there was a grand opening party. About 3000 people were invited. It was a mix of celebration and promotion.
Today, the office floors have been renovated. They feature modern workspaces. These changes came after the pandemic. Online meetings and remote work became common. Individual work styles became more popular. The renovation focused on individual spaces. There are now various types of work areas.
In the center of the floors is a cafe space. It displays the 116-year history of Mizuno. Treasures from the closed Midosuji shop are also on display. This creates a unique atmosphere. It is a space where employees can relax and collaborate.
Mizuno Crista has adapted to changing times. Some things remain the same. Other things evolve. It is interesting to consider the future. How will this building change in the next 10 or 20 years?
