How would you like to witness a “sea of clouds”? Here at the Kameoka Fog Terrace, you can experience just that! Kameoka Fog Terrace is an observation deck that opened in March 2018. It’s located near the summit of Mount Ryugain, on the southern side of the Kameoka Basin.
This terrace offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Kameoka Basin. From late fall to early spring, a captivating phenomenon occurs. The basin transforms into a mystical “sea of clouds”, a sight affectionately known as “Tanba Fog” by locals. Imagine a vast expanse of fluffy white clouds stretching as far as the eye can see. The best time to witness this magical spectacle is early morning, before the sun climbs high and burns away the fog.
Kameoka Fog Terrace is not just about the fog. Even on clearer days, it offers spectacular views of the Tamba Mountains and the Kameoka cityscape. Benches and tables are provided, inviting you to linger and soak in the beauty. The Kameoka City Tourist Association provides real-time updates on fog occurrences through their “Kameoka Fog Terrace Live Camera”. So, before you head out, be sure to check the live camera feed for the most up-to-date fog situation. You won’t want to miss this unforgettable experience!
