Yaowarat is Bangkok’s Chinatown. It began in the late 17th century. King Rama I asked Chinese immigrants to move here. He was establishing his new capital. These immigrants were known for hard work. They became key players in the Thai economy. Yaowarat became a major trade center. People came from different countries. Chinese art and culture thrived. It mixed with local and foreign cultures.

There are also altars for the Gong Wu deity. The Queen of Heaven is also honored here. An ancient bell sits near the entrance. It is attributed to Emperor Daoguang.
