He dared to introduce Western musical styles like Jazz and Classical into traditional Thai music, creating a vibrant new genre known as Phleng Thai Sakon. But Sunthornsanan persevered, his music gaining momentum and eventually the support of Prime Minister Plaek Phibunsongkhram himself, who saw in Phleng Thai Sakon a reflection of a modernizing Thailand. Throughout his life, Eua Sunthornsanan led the Suntaraporn Band, the first Thai Western-style orchestra.
