Wat Ko Phaya Cheng is also known as Koh Praya Jeng. It is a beautiful Buddhist temple. It is located next to the Chao Phraya River in Nonthaburi, north of Bangkok.
Wat Ko Phaya Cheng was built in the year 2318 of the Buddhist era. This corresponds to the XVI century. Chao Phraya Mahayothat (Thoree Krasaesanee) initiated its construction. Chao Phraya Mahayothat was later known as Chaophraya Maha Yotha.
Wat Ko Phaya Cheng was built during the reign of King Taksin. The temple was subsequently granted Wisungkhamsima status around the year 2330 in the Buddhist Era. Chao Phraya Mahayothat then expanded and renovated the temple. This marked it as a significant religious site.
Wat Ko Phaya Cheng has also been known as Wat Kao or Wat Bang Phut. This name is due to its ancient origins.
Later, Phraya Rachsongkhram (Muntharat Krasaesanee) supported Wat Ko Phaya Cheng. He was the son of Chao Phraya Mahayothat. This further solidified the temple’s importance. Consequently, the name of the temple was changed to Wat Ko Phaya Cheng. It became an अनुสรณ์, a monument to a great man.
On the 31st of April, 2423, Wat Ko Phaya Cheng was the site of a significant event. สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสุนันทากุมารีรัตน์ พระบรมราชเทวี, Queen Sunanda Kumariratana visited the temple.
Wat Ko Phaya Cheng is 50 meters long. It is 22 meters wide. It is 10 meters high.
Within Wat Ko Phaya Cheng, you will find intricate murals. These murals adorn the Ubosot. They depict stories of the Lord Buddha. They illustrate variousเทพชุมนุม celestial congregations. They also display the দশ Jataka tales.
The principle Buddha image here is พระอัครสาวก. It features a statue of พระพุทธรูปปางมารวิชัย.
