Established in 1773 the Sheikh Muhammad bin Ibrahim Mosque stands before you. It’s a testament to Riyadh’s enduring history. This isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a living record of faith scholarship and urban development.

Originally known as the Dakhna Grand Mosque it served as a vital center of learning. Hanbali Sunni scholars flocked here. The Dakhna quarter earned the nickname Hayy al-Ulema meaning “neighborhood of scholars”. Imagine the discussions the debates the profound insights shared within these walls.

The mosque has witnessed significant changes. It was renovated in 1942 1962 and 1983. These renovations reflect the city’s growth and the mosque’s continued importance. The latest transformation occurred between 2001 and 2005. This was part of the Qasr Al Hukm District Development Project. The project significantly expanded the mosque’s capacity to accommodate 1800 worshippers.

A key figure in the mosque’s history is Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Al ash-Sheikh. He served as the imam after the death of Abdullah ibn Abd al-Latif Al ash-Sheikh in 1921.
