Princess Nourah Bint Abdul Rahman University, or PNU as it’s often called, pulses with life. Imagine a campus so large it has its own metro system. That’s PNU, a sprawling 13 million square meter campus with over 600 buildings. A city within a city, designed to cater to 60,000 students. PNU is named after Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman, the elder sister and advisor of King Abdulaziz ibn Saud. Her name, meaning “light”, perfectly embodies the university’s mission. PNU offers a spectrum of educational opportunities, from diplomas to postgraduate degrees. It has colleges scattered throughout Riyadh and surrounding areas. An Arabic Language Institute welcomes students from all corners of the globe. There’s even a Community College for those pursuing specialized vocational training. Established in 1970 as a College of Education for women, PNU has blossomed into a full-fledged university. It boasts over 5,000 academic and administrative staff. The university isn’t just focused on academics. It prioritizes sustainability, with a water recycling plant and a significant solar panel installation. Many of its buildings are even LEED certified. In 2018, PNU made history again. Following the royal decree allowing women to drive, PNU became the first university in the Kingdom to establish a driving school for women.
